On June 17, a scientific conference on the topic "Modern approach to the examination and treatment of oncological diseases" was held at the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Hospital with the participation of highly qualified doctors of the National Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

AZERTAC reports that opening the conference, the Minister of Health of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Niyazi Novruzov, congratulated the participants of the event on June 17 - the Professional Day of Medical Workers. He noted that today, complex measures are being implemented in our country, including in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, towards the development of healthcare, the renewal of healthcare infrastructure, the creation of new outpatient and inpatient treatment and prevention institutions serve to protect the health of the population. Today, in Nakhchivan, along with other diseases, the treatment and prevention of oncological diseases are in the spotlight. Doctors of the Oncology Center of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic regularly conduct preventive examinations in the regions of the autonomous republic. The highly qualified medical team of the National Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan held a medical campaign at the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Hospital from June 15 to 17, which is part of the work carried out to protect the health of the population in the autonomous republic. Niyazi Novruzov wished success to the work of the conference.

In his speech on the topic of “Modern surgical treatment of head and neck tumors”, Professor Aziz Aliyev, a surgeon-oncologist of the Head and Neck Tumors Department of the National Oncology Center, first spoke about the achievements achieved in our country in this field and noted that today the rapid economic development of our republic has had a positive impact on the development of all social spheres, including healthcare. As a result of the attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev, the successfully implemented reforms in the healthcare sector, the improvement of the material and technical base of medical institutions, the work done on equipment and personnel training have paved the way for new successes.

"Special attention is paid to oncology, one of the most important areas of healthcare in our country. As a result of the attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev, the National Oncology Center is currently equipped with the most modern medical equipment, including a mobile diagnostic complex," said Aziz Aliyev, adding that the center's surgical corps was opened in 2009 and the Pediatric Oncology Corps in 2012. First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva played a great role in the establishment of the first Children's Clinic in the region under the center. Last year, the Nuclear Medicine Center was also opened under the center. This center is the first and only medical institution of this type not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the region.

It was emphasized that the National Oncology Center, which has a rich material and technical base and strong human resources, is successfully operating today under the leadership of academician Jamil Aliyev. The center, which is comparable to the most advanced healthcare institutions in the world, continues to cooperate with the World Health Organization, MD Anderson and Sloan Kettering Oncology Centers, the European Association of Nuclear Medicine and other prestigious centers and organizations. Today, the center's experienced employees conduct major scientific research aimed at organizing the structure of the republic's oncology service, early diagnosis of malignant tumors and providing modern surgical, radiation and drug treatment to these patients, and further improving existing treatment methods.

It was noted that the number of patients applying to the center is increasing every year. In 2016 alone, up to 91 thousand patients applied here, of which about 31 thousand were registered as oncological patients. It was determined that 60 thousand people were non-oncological patients. That year, up to 4 thousand successful surgical operations were performed at the center.

The surgical oncologist of the Head and Neck Tumors Department of the National Oncology Center said that currently, laryngectomy, complete or partial removal of the larynx, is performed in the head and neck tumor department of the center for laryngeal cancer. During laryngectomy performed using the new method, all necessary measures are taken to ensure the patient's normal adaptation to society and an adequate lifestyle like other people. The "Provox" voice restoration system or prosthesis is used to implement this process. Air from the "Provox" prosthesis enters the patient not directly through the tracheostomy, but through the filters of the prosthesis. Therefore, the risk of pneumonia in the patient is prevented. As a result, the patient feels good, can comfortably and freely communicate with his relatives and friends. This surgical operation, which has been applied at the center for the last 3 years, is considered a great step and achievement in the field of medicine.

Later, the conference heard speeches by the center's doctors on the topics of "Cancer Prevention", "The Role of Fine Needle Biopsy in Early Diagnosis of Thyroid Cancer", "Minimally Invasive Surgical Methods in Oncourology", "A New Era of Oncological Diagnostics: PET-CT", "The Role of Invasive Radiology in Oncology", "Removal of Tumors with Resection of Major Vessels", "Modern Diagnostic and Treatment Methods of Breast Cancer", "Methods for Early Detection of Cervical Cancer", "Modern Endoscopic Examination and Treatment Methods in the Digestive and Respiratory Organs". The speeches, which reflected modern approaches to the treatment and examination of cancer, were met with interest.

At the conference, new methods applied in surgical operations for cancer were explained through video footage, and questions were answered
