International conference on "International multidisciplinary cancer treatment" is being held in Baku

On September 15, an international conference on "International Multidisciplinary Cancer Treatment" began in Baku. The two-day conference was organized within the framework of joint cooperation between the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the world's most influential cancer-fighting organization with nearly 40,000 members, and the Azerbaijan National Oncology Center.
AZERTAC reports that the main topic of the event is multidisciplinary treatment and prospects for breast cancer and head and neck tumors.
Speaking at the event, surgical oncologist head and neck tumor department of the National Oncology Center's, Professor Aziz Aliyev, said that as a result of long-term businesslike and fruitful negotiations, the leadership of the American Society of Clinical Oncology welcomed the National Oncology Center's proposal for joint cooperation. American specialists studied the methods of the National Oncology Center in combating oncological diseases, were interested in the scientific research conducted there, studied the center's international cooperation strategy and decided to cooperate. This cooperation is not the first cooperation of the center with colleagues from America. Back in 2015, a long-term agreement on international cooperation was signed between the National Oncology Center and the MD Anderson Cancer Center of the United States.
Professor Aziz Aliyev emphasized that the event was attended by well-known specialists such as members of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Director of the Seattle Cancer Center of the United States, Professor Julia Gralow, Head of the Stem Cell Department of the University of Miami, Professor Tan Ince, Professor David Raben of the University of Colorado, Professor Herbert Lung of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Deputy Director of the Clinical Research Center, and breast cancer surgeon Carlos Garcia Etienne.
Speaking about the development of oncology services in Azerbaijan, A. Aliyev noted that the National Oncology Center, to which the country's leadership always pays attention and care, is a leading institution that coordinates scientific, methodological and preventive work in the field of providing specialized oncology assistance not only to the population of the republic, but also to the population of the countries of the region: "The day before the conference, the guests visited the National Oncology Center and were interested in the quality of the existing oncology service in Azerbaijan. They toured the pediatric oncology, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, resuscitation and intensive therapy departments of the center, and got acquainted with the conditions created for high-quality treatment of diseases here. The Director General of the Center, Academician Jamil Aliyev, received the guests and informed them about the development of oncology services in Azerbaijan. The guests were informed that in recent years the center has been closely cooperating with the world's leading companies that produce new technologies necessary for the treatment of oncology patients. As a result of this cooperation, the quality of oncology services is increasing year by year, and the application of modern innovations is expanding. Foreign experts highly appreciated the many years of fruitful work of Academician J. Aliyev in the field of oncology and noted that the number of patients suffering from cancer at the National Oncology Center is increasing. They especially emphasized the importance of the modern conditions created for the treatment of cancer. They expressed their admiration for the work of the radiotherapy department, which is equipped with seven linear accelerators, which are organized in accordance with world standards for the treatment of patients with cancer.
Yesterday, for the first time in Azerbaijan, a course for nurses working in the field of oncology was organized by the American Society of Oncology Nurses at the National Oncology Center. More than 50 nurses participated in the training. The first course was very effective and was remembered for its businesslike discussions.
Vanessa Sarchet, international relations specialist of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and Stefan Tervindt, international relations specialist of the American Society of Oncology Nurses, expressed their deep gratitude to the National Oncology Center for the high-level organization of the conference. The specialists spoke about oncological diseases and modern methods used in their treatment.
The event featured presentations by Javid Garibov, a breast surgeon at the National Oncology Center, on “Epidemiology and principles of treatment of breast cancer in Azerbaijan”, Professor Tan Ince, Director of the Stem Cell Center at the University of Miami, on “Pathohistological examination in breast cancer”, Carlos Garcia Etienne, a representative of the Italian Breast Center, breast cancer surgeon, on “The role of surgical treatment in breast cancer”, “Early stage breast cancer” based on a patient presentation by Gunel Haji, a radiation therapist at the National Oncology Center, on “The role of radiation therapy in breast cancer”, David Raben, a professor at the Department of Radiation Therapy at the University of Colorado, on “Locally disseminated breast cancer” based on a patient presentation by Elkhan Kazimov, a chemotherapist at the National Oncology Center, on “Oncology of the Breast, Clinical Research Department” of the Seattle Cancer Center, USA.
