AZERTAC reports that the conference, jointly organized by the Azerbaijan National Oncology Center and the MD Anderson Cancer Center of the United States, will discuss the current problems of oncology - modern diagnostics, treatment and reconstructive surgery of breast cancer, pediatric oncology, head and neck cancer, modern approaches to the management of patients with viral hepatitis, as well as patients in intensive care.

The main goal of the conference is to develop an international coordination mechanism between the world's leading centers, establish contacts with world-renowned scientists, researchers and doctors in different fields, and create an opportunity to discuss the latest achievements in closely related fields of science and healthcare.

Welcoming the guests, Academician Jamil Aliyev, Director of the National Oncology Center, said that influential scientists, researchers and leading specialists from the USA, Germany, Austria, Turkey, and more than 20 countries of the world who have come to Baku will get acquainted with the work and results achieved by Azerbaijani colleagues in the field of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of oncological diseases, and at the same time share with them the secrets of their own research and experience. At the two-day conference, many topics will be discussed, including the details of diagnostics and treatment of oncological pathologies, various urgent problems of science, medicine and healthcare, the tasks facing oncology and their potential solutions, as well as in plenary sessions, master classes and free contacts.

It was noted that the number of oncological diseases is gradually decreasing in Azerbaijan and a full legal basis has been created for people suffering from malignant tumors to receive free specialized medical and social assistance.

Jamil Aliyev emphasized that the holding of a large-scale international scientific conference on oncology in Baku, the high appreciation of the work of local specialists by very influential famous scientists and doctors, the great importance attached to their achievements, the desire to cooperate with the National Oncology Center of the world-famous MD Anderson Cancer Center of the United States, appreciating the modern activities of the National Oncology Center, is a great success not only for the Center, the country's healthcare, but also for Azerbaijan, which has been continuously developing in recent years. There is no doubt that the exchange of experiences, scientific works, and standards on the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases between specialists from different countries will serve to further improve the quality of medical service and public health protection in our country.

Academician Jamil Aliyev wished success to the work of the conference.

Then, the history and achievements of the National Oncology Center were discussed. Providing information on this, Professor Aziz Aliyev said that as a result of the attention and care of the President of Azerbaijan, the National Oncology Center is currently equipped with the most modern medical equipment, including a mobile diagnostic complex. The problem of providing oncological patients with anti-tumor drugs has been eliminated. The National Oncology Center, which has a rich material and technical base and strong human resources, can already be compared with the most advanced oncology centers in the world. The center's employees conduct major scientific research on the organization of the structure of the oncology service of our republic, early diagnosis of malignant tumors and modern surgical, radiation and drug treatment of these patients, and further improvement of existing treatment methods.

Today, the National Oncology Center serves as the main center for coordinating scientific, methodological and preventive work on specialized oncological care provided to the population of the republic. The modern and beautiful surgical building of the center is equipped with the most modern medical equipment. New radiology and pediatric oncology buildings have been put at the disposal of citizens. Last year, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Oncology Center, a 650-bed clinical base that studies the etiopathogenesis, diagnostics, treatment and prevention of malignant tumors, and the US company Varian Medical Systems, which designs and manufactures the most modern technologies for radiation therapy for cancer. Thus, the National Oncology Center was officially granted the status of an international training and consulting center.

It was noted that the great interest in this conference not only in our country, but also in the oncology sector of the entire world's healthcare system is not limited to the relevance and wide range of issues discussed. For the first time, the Azerbaijan National Oncology Center is holding an international scientific and practical conference together with the MD Anderson Cancer Center, one of the most prestigious and reliable scientific and research centers in the world. This fact is an international confirmation of the National Oncology Center's growing reputation and positive indicators from year to year.
