A long-term cooperation agreement has been signed between the National Oncology Center and Orfit Industries

On October 19, a long-term (five-year) cooperation agreement was signed between the National Oncology Center (NOC) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Belgian company Orfit Industries.

AZERTAC reports that the document was signed by the First Deputy Director General of NOC, Professor Aziz Aliyev, and the President of Orfit Industries, Steven Kuypers.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Aziz Aliyev emphasized that thanks to the attention and care of the President of Azerbaijan, the National Oncology Center has been equipped with the latest medical equipment, including a mobile diagnostic complex, and the problem of providing oncology patients with anti-tumor drugs has been eliminated. The National Oncology Center, which has a rich material and technical base and strong human resources, can be ranked among the leading oncology centers in the world. The center's employees provide high-quality services to oncology patients, conduct early diagnostics of malignant tumors, treat patients with modern surgical methods, radiotherapy and drugs, and conduct large-scale scientific research to further improve existing treatment methods. Every year, 3000-3500 patients are treated with radiotherapy procedures in the radiotherapy department.

Professor A. Aliyev, giving information about the cooperation of the National Oncology Center with the world's leading clinics and companies in this field, noted that in October 2014, a cooperation agreement was signed between MOM and the Varian Medical System company (USA), which designs and manufactures modern technologies for radiotherapy of malignant tumors, and thus MOM received the status of an official reference center. In addition, in 2015, the clinical-biochemistry laboratory of MOM was granted the status of a reference center for the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia by the Swiss company Roche Tissue Diagnostics. In November 2015, a long-term cooperation agreement was signed between the National Oncology Center of Azerbaijan and the MD Anderson Cancer Center (USA). Currently, the National Oncology Center is the main organization responsible for coordinating scientific, methodological and preventive work on providing qualified oncological assistance to the population of the republic.

Practical training sessions on radiotherapy will be held at the Baku International Training and Consulting Center of the Orfit Industries company, and classes on clinical programs dedicated to modern methods of radiotherapy will be organized for doctors from foreign countries. At the same time, seminars are planned for other specialists - physicists, engineers and technicians, in addition to radiation oncologists of Azerbaijan. It has been shown that conducting radiotherapy using modern methods is a very complex task. These treatment methods require highly trained personnel and modern technologies. Continuous work is being carried out in this direction at the National Oncology Center. The radiotherapy department has 5 linear accelerators equipped with the most modern computer programs, high-energy brachytherapy, a computer tomography simulator and other devices.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Orfit Industries President Steven Kuypers recalled that on January 19, 2015, a cooperation agreement was signed between the National Oncology Center, the leading oncology institution in Azerbaijan and the entire Caucasus region, and Orfit Industries. According to that agreement, MOM received the status of a training and testing center. This document creates an opportunity to expand cooperation between partners, deliver modern technologies to Azerbaijan in a shorter time, and conduct a wide exchange of views with specialists from foreign countries. At the same time, the signing of that agreement confirms the recognition of the high level of services provided to oncology patients at MOM by other leading clinics in the world. In addition, the agreement provides for the organization of clinical practice and research, as well as scientific and educational events.

Steven Kuypers, providing information about the activities of his company, noted that Orfit Industries is a world-renowned supplier of systems and equipment that provide immobilization and positioning of patients during radiation therapy. It was noted that the status of an international training and testing center is granted only to clinics equipped with the most modern medical equipment and highly qualified specialists with extensive experience in the field of diagnostics and treatment of patients. There are such clinics in only 7 countries in Europe. This fact once again confirms the level of the Azerbaijani MOM. Taking all this into account, it was decided to extend the term of the cooperation agreement for another 5 years.
Speaking at the event, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to our country, Bert Schoofs, emphasized that the increase in the level of medical care for oncology patients at the National Oncology Center in accordance with European standards should be assessed, first of all, as the result of the progressive humanitarian policy of President Ilham Aliyev. The signing of a long-term cooperation agreement once again confirms that other clinics and companies, which are considered world leaders in this field, recognize the high level of oncology care provided at the National Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
